Quite a few US Second World War arborglyphs in the woods around Rockley and Barbury Camp. The Americans were based in various camps at Ogborne, Chiseldon and Marlborough (hospital on the common and Savernake bomb store) from 1943 and used the Downs as an area to train. There is a map of the Marlborough Downs training area which shows the extent of the training area and the existence of a tank, mortar and rifle range. There is very little evidence of this training range surviving but there is some tree carving evidence that is lasting testament of the troops on the Downs.
